A Lesson in Symbolism (001a2 Sunday 8/9/1953)
Throughout the mists of time great teachers spoke of mysteries in the language of symbols so that these truths would be obvious only to the advanced who would understand them. Flower A. Newhouse shares the inner meaning of a variety of symbols from mystics, religions, nature, and dreams.

Flower describes the Christmas symbols and their meaning to Christians. She gives her thoughts on what Christ would like for humankind.
Meaning of the Spiritual Sun (125-1 Sunday 1/10/1960)
Since earliest times God was thought of as great light and in the Christian faith we read our God is a consuming light. Light as in the form of fire is the purest of all elements, indeed it is so pure that very few spiritual individuals understand it on this earth and very few scientist's will ever know it in its entirety. We should think about this glorious light and this spiritual fire by which we are invested because we know that the greatest souls of earth have been the fire bands of spirit. And we know that whereever there's one awakened by God, that fire of spirit will be found through him with ever successively awakening light within others. So in deed we turn our thoughts to this subject of fire and of light and of the spiritual sun and of the solar logos itself with renewed impetus.
The Spiritual Value of the Japanese Tea Ceremony (137-2 Sunday 10/2/1960)
The Spiritual Value of a Talisman (160-2 Sunday 8/20/1961)
Ancient use of symbols in Chaldea, Egypt and Greece drew freshets of power. Illumination is often charged with symbols and so are dreams. The ancient world considered mandalas, or talismans, to have spiritual power and contain messages from God. Constantine's dream of a flaming cross led to success in battle and ultimately becoming Emperor. Flower described a sample mandala one might receive to symbolize goals of entire life. Description of symbol of a tree, sun, star, triangle, etc. Amulets were used to repel evil. Arthur Waite's invocation for blessing of a mandala or talisman. Quotes of Edgar Allen Poe and Jacob Boehme given.
The Heart's Symbolic Function (174-2 Sunday 2/11/1962)
Flower states that by being more awakened to the superphysical aspects of the heart we may come into greater control of this wondrous center. Some individuals experience heart awakenings during their lifetime, and some are born with their heart centers already functioning. Describes the heart chakra from physical and superphysical standpoints, including the heart center on astral, mental and soul levels. Explains that it is important as we progress in our Christian experience that we love others as well as those souls in the inner kingdoms, and in doing so our hearts shall be lifted. As ones heart is lifted upward, the hearts spiritual counterparts on each level vibrate at higher and higher levels, creating greater color in every body, as well as size of heart center. Indicates that there are 714 references to the heart in the Bible, New and Old Testaments. Quotes several of these, and recommends anyone who experiences difficulty with their heart, to read and use them in their life.
Dreams and What They Can Mean (220-1 Sunday 3/31/1963)
The fascinating and illuminating world of dream interpretation is explored by Flower. Using the Swiss Psychiatrist, Carl Jung, as a primary source for dream symbols and meaning, many examples are shared of the importance of exploring our subconscious through our dreams. In this way we can further our spiritual growth as well as heal ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Flower concludes this talk stressing the importance of remembering and recording our dreams by saying, 'a dream, which is uninterrupted, is like a letter, which has never been read.'
God Within and God Unfolded (234-1 Sunday 10/20/1963)
Man is beginning to recognize that they are more than body and a spirit. We are a septenary or seven-fold being, and that because we are seven-fold, we have much to do in overcoming as well as raising and enhancing of these powers that belong to our inner nature. Describes the attributes of our lower quadrate (physical, etheric, astral, mental bodies) and higher triad (soul, adonai, monad), as well as the symbols, characteristics and terminology of our higher bodies. Descriptions of initiates and masters. Compares God inherent and potential with actualized and unfolded.
Having a Secret Formula for Life (256-2 Sunday 8/9/1964)
Flower teaches that we need a formula for our lives, something to spur us on to higher levels of consciousness. She also speaks of making medallions showing in symbols of our formula or credo. She gives many examples of successful people who have had a code or credo for their lives giving them purpose to achieve.
Christmas is an Initiatory Reminder (268-1 Sunday 12/20/1964)
Christmas is the spirit of Christ made manifest and visible to man, transforming our outer lives. It is a time to adore the living Christ, the model of our own becoming. Christmas is a reminder of the first degree of initiation. Describes traits of initiates. A reborn soul has, as his or her predominant quality, obedience to superior development and attainment, and to everything that is above one in God. Describes symbolism of Christmas star, manger, Bethlehem, tree, bells, carols.
Understanding the Seven Rays (298-2 Sunday 2/6/1966)
This lecture explains in detail each of the seven rays and their importance in our lives in understanding both ourselves and others. Flower describes the colors, symbols, Masters, and teaching adepts of each ray as well as giving examples of well-known persons, group organizations and religions for the seven rays. She explains that we have 3 rays influencing our lives: our main ray, sub-ray and finally the ray that affects us on the physical level only-that of our zodiacal sign. All of these rays help to balance our personality selves.
The Meaning and Value of the Sacraments (299-2 Sunday 2/20/1966)
There is great esoteric Christian meaning during the symbolical rites of the various sacraments. Christ is the Light of the World symbolized by candles in a church. Incense symbolizes the coming of the Wise Men. Descriptions are given about what takes place superphysically during different ceremonies. The bread and juice used in communion taste different after being blessed. At memorial services the person who passed must be present and receive the thought forms of those who are honoring him. We should bless and dedicate new buildings businesses, memorial trees, and our cars.
Numbers and Their Symbolical Content (315-2 Sunday 10/16/1966)
We each come into life with a keynote, a numerical value. Each day has a specific vibration. Descriptions given of Pythagorasí school and the two types of students attending. On earth we vibrate to numbers 1 through 9; explanations and symbols given for each number. Instructions given for working out the Pythagorean triangle. Numbers for our names should also be worked out.
Unveiling the Mysteries of the Holy Spirit (324-2 Sunday 3/5/1967)
Flower explains the aspect of God in and throughout the Holy Comforter. We need to understand more about the Holy Spirit if we are to develop the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and are to be guided, blessed, and helped by it. This third aspect of God, functions throughout our planet, just as the Christ Spirit, and God the Mother, Father Spirit, do. Flower shares the symbols (white dove, rush of wind, seal of the Holy spirit) of Holy Spirit and cites relevant Bible verses. Describes manifestations and functions of this aspect, as enlightener, stimulator, awakener. Gives examples of outposts of Holy Spirit. There will be an increased emphasis on Holy spirit with coming of Aquarian Age. Ends with brief, but fascinating Question and Answer session.
The Significance of Sacred Cities and Sites (353-2 Sunday 3/3/1968)
Esoteric insights into the different energy currents and influences that emanate from different sites around the world. It has been our great interest throughout this incarnation to be conscious of the fact that in some places there issued forth a power that was not felt elsewhere. It has been fascinating to observe how some cities and some sites possess colors, frequencies and influences different than exist elsewhere.
Understanding the Value of the Sacraments (373-2 Sunday 10/27/1968)
A church is a holy place where one encounters God. Holy Ones enter from the altar which represents the peak in man; the nave represents the filling of power; candles represent the presence of the Living Christ; Bible represents the Word of God; christening service gives permanent thought form by representative of the Christ and creates a link between inner and outer. Inner values of communion service, baptism, marriage, memorial, home blessing and dedication services described. Memorial service is most transcendent of all.
The Meaning of the Sacred and the Profane Beauty (477-2 Sunday 11/7/1971)
Flower discusses the higher meaning of all art forms in this talk, which is inspired by a book she read by Gerardus Van Der Leeuw, a Finnish writer and a great genius. Flower concludes that all this brings home to us the task of making our own lives beautiful. If we are not dancers, we can walk with greater grace. We may not be trained or great singers, but at least we can sing with all our souls to God and through what we sing, be healed of minor limitations.
The Meaning of the Sacred and the Profane Beauty (500-1 Sunday 4/23/1972)
What Inner Meaning Is Behind Being Lost Or Saved? (527-2 Sunday 4/8/1973)
Difference described between Christianity and churchianity. Discussion of Catholic faith, Protestant and other faiths. Discussion of meaning of being lost or saved. Apostle Paul's version of being saved vs. our Lord's. Emerson met several famous authors in England and was disappointed to find they were not the same persons that their writings indicated. He felt Henry Wordsworth was the most outstanding and was one person at all times. Teilhard de Chardin was a 4th degree initiate and was badly treated by the church. After his passing his writings have been accepted. Explains that psychopaths have lost contact with their souls. After they return to primal essence and are sent out into life again they will be reunited with the seed atoms of their souls. The two things that can't be compelled from us are belief and love.

The life and writings of Flower A. Newhouse are those of a Christian mystic, and her insights into the inner realms of life provide us with a path to wholeness that she called "Living the Life." These teachings are not doctrine, but a practical guide to the direct, immediate experience of God. Flower's mission was also to reawaken humanity to the reality of angels, a work she began with her first book in 1937, and added to in many published writings and in recorded lectures.
